Jennifer Webster is an NSWOC (Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence) who has been passionately practicing nursing for over 30 years. Graduating with first class honours from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, her career has included post surgical nursing and 10 years of classroom and clinical teaching in nursing at Sheridan College. She has spent the last 20 years in community and primary care as a wound and ostomy care specialist. Jennifer is also a certified compression fitter with Sigvaris, Jobst, and Juzo. As an experienced educator, she is enthusiastic about learning and sharing information related to wound, ostomy, and lower leg health via image-rich PowerPoint presentations, in-person mentoring and hands on learning. Through the years, she has received numerous commendations from her patients, community nurses, primary care physicians, surgeons, and other allied heath professionals.

Drawing on principles of best practice wound care, the cause of the wound is identified and factors which may delay or enhance healing are determined. Wound healing techniques and support are then recommended. Communication and advocacy involving other health care professionals is often an important part of wound healing.
An annual checkup is recommended for all individuals living with an ostomy
Whether you have recently had surgery or you have had an ostomy for many years, Jennifer is an experienced NSWOC and available to answer questions and help you to troubleshoot concerns with your pouching system or skin. Following assessment, suggestions will be made regarding what pouching system will work best with your ostomy, body type, lifestyle, and preferences. Skin and wound problems will be identified and treatment recommendations will be made.

Circulatory compromise can result in problems with comfort, skin health, safety, and mobility.
A lower leg assessment involves screening for symptoms of arterial, venous, or lymphatic concerns. Teaching regarding what is being assessed is provided.
Jennifer is able to implement screening procedures including ABPI’s (Ankle Brachial Pressure Index) and TBPI’s (Toe Brachial Pressure Index) using handheld doppler equipment.
Graduated compression stockings may enhance overall blood flow and oxygenation by improving the circulation back to the core and the heart via the veins. The results of this may include:
Jennifer is a Certified Compression Fitter for Sigvaris, Jobst and Juzo (all top in the compression industry). She will discuss your lifestyle needs and fit you up with what will best meet these needs. Compression “stockings” are available in a variety of lengths, colours, textures, patterns and styles. For those who find donning and doffing of compression difficult, Jennifer can show you a variety of aids to make this easier. “Velcro” closure compression is also another potential option.
